Ukrainian authorities uncover Russian plot to assassinate President Zelensky
In a significant revelation, Ukrainian intelligence announced on Tuesday, May 7, that it has successfully foiled a Russian conspiracy aimed at assassinating President Volodymyr Zelensky along with other top Ukrainian officials. The State Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) disclosed that two high-ranking officers from Ukraine’s State Security Administration (UDO) are currently detained under suspicion of collaborating with the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) to orchestrate the plot. These officials are believed to have been instrumental in planning the potential assassination or capture of President Zelensky.
The SBU reported that the Russian plot not only targeted President Zelensky but also aimed at other key figures such as the head of military intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, and SBU chief Vasyl Malyuk. The FSB’s operation involved recruiting insiders within the Ukrainian military who are close to the presidential security services, with plans to take Zelensky hostage before executing him.
