Petrobras awards five-year digital transformation contract to SLB
SLB (formerly Schlumberger) announced it has secured a five-year contract from Brazilian oil and gas giant Petrobras for a comprehensive deployment of its Delfi digital platform.
This marks a significant step in Petrobras’ digital transformation strategy, encompassing exploration, development, and production operations. A critical part of the contract is the transition of subsurface workflows to the cloud, which aims to significantly expedite decision-making processes.
This contract signifies one of Petrobras’ most considerable investments in cloud-based technologies, laying the groundwork for its ambitious decarbonization and net-zero targets.
With the Delfi platform’s integration, Petrobras aims to achieve substantial time efficiency, particularly in geological and geophysical (G&G) interpretation processes. Notably, the platform has demonstrated a significant reduction in processing times, with some workflows experiencing a cut down from hours to mere minutes.
One key application of the Delfi platform includes AI and machine learning technologies, which have been successful in reducing fault interpretation time in petrophysical modeling workflows by up to 60%. The platform is set to empower all Petrobras’ geoscientists and engineers with scalable digital technology and enhanced computing power, allowing them to concentrate more effectively on business operations.
Petrobras’ hefty investment in SLB’s digital technology for E&P aligns with its plan to boost overall operational production. This collaboration with SLB aims to harness the capabilities of the Delfi platform to drive Petrobras’ digital transformation and assist in reaching its environmental goals.
Rakesh Jaggi — SLB president of Digital and Integration said: “By leveraging AI, machine learning, and high-performance computing technology from SLB, Petrobras will drive aggressive efficiency and production increases across its E&P business.
“Leveraging the Delfi platform to digitally transform Petrobras’ E&P workflows, will improve efficiency and demonstrates its commitment to sustainability and energy transition.”
