In an innovative initiative to bolster sustainable energy, three Georgia-based companies have collaborated to design and install an innovative solar array on the parking deck at Georgia Power’s headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. The project involves Radiance Solar, LLC, QCells, and Quest Renewables and showcases a commitment to renewable energy and local industry collaboration.

Radiance Solar, a leader in solar engineering, procurement, and construction, alongside QCells, a provider of high-quality solar modules, and Quest Renewables, known for its canopy racking technology, have come together to build a 200 kW AC solar carport. This installation spans the top level of the parking deck at Georgia Power’s downtown headquarters and is equipped with state-of-the-art technology including Quest’s canopy racking system developed at Georgia Tech and powered by QCells’ 580 watt modules.

The Georgia Power Solar Carport is a testament to the power company’s ongoing dedication to renewable energy. It’s projected to produce approximately 411 MWhs in its first year, helping to partially offset the energy usage of the headquarters campus. This initiative not only underscores Georgia Power’s commitment to sustainable practices but also emphasizes the importance of partnering with local companies to push forward the agenda of clean energy solutions.

Quest Renewables’ Parking Garage Carport technology, utilized in this project, is acclaimed for being the most efficient solution in the parking garage solar market. It allows for most of the construction work, including module and inverter wiring, to be completed on the ground. This approach significantly reduces overhead work, enhancing worksite safety and optimizing construction efficiency. The final assembly involves lifting the canopies by crane for installation, minimizing disruption and risk during the process.

The collaboration and its outcomes have been positively highlighted by leaders from the involved companies. Finn Findley, CEO of Quest, remarked, “Quest has been privileged to help advance Georgia Power’s renewable energy goals for years. We were also thrilled to work with Radiance Solar again, who installed Georgia Power’s solar arrays at Mercedes Benz Stadium. It’s great to see the same technology coming back home to downtown Atlanta.”

Mike Perkins, Chief Commercial Officer at Radiance Solar, also commented on the longstanding partnership: “We’ve enjoyed the working relationship that we’ve had with Georgia Power for over a decade now, and being able to bring in two other partners that are also Georgia-based made this a real display of what local energy means.”

Debra DeShong, Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications at QCells, expressed pride in their contributions: “After investing more than $2.5 billion to expand our operations in Dalton and to build a fully integrated solar supply chain facility in Cartersville, Georgia, we are excited to see our modules used in such a visible, local project.”

This project is a significant step in demonstrating how corporate initiatives can integrate with local business strengths to foster a sustainable future. By leveraging advanced technologies and local expertise, Georgia Power and its partners are setting a precedent for urban energy solutions that could inspire similar developments elsewhere.
