Cabora Bassa project : Invictus Energy awards contract to Baker Hughes

Invictus Energy said that it has awarded an integrated well services contract to Baker Hughes pertaining to its Cabora Bassa project in Zimbabwe.

The Australian oil and gas company did not reveal the value of the contract awarded to the US-based oilfield services provider.

The company, which has an operating stake of 80% in the Cabora Bassa project, said that it has issued a letter of intent with Baker Hughes and the well services contract is likely to be finalized and executed in the coming weeks.

Under the contract, Baker Hughes will be responsible for cementing, drilling fluids, mudlogging, directional drilling and logging, tubular running, installation of wellhead equipment as well as project management.

In December 2021, Invictus Energy had awarded a contract to EXALO Drilling for deploying the latter’s Exalo Rig 202 to carry out the drilling work at the Cabora Bassa project. The first well of the campaign, which is the Muzarabani-1 exploration well, is likely to be spudded in the first half of this year.

Invictus Energy has also roped in ERC Equipoise Pte (ERCE) to carry out an independent prospective resource update for the Cabora Bassa project.

The review by ERC Equipoise will include the freshly acquired and processed high resolution 2D seismic data from the CB21 Seismic Survey, which was wrapped up last November and the simultaneously reprocessed 1990 vintage Mobil 2D seismic survey for the prospects and leads identified through the seismic interpretation.

The Cabora Bassa project features the Muzarabani prospect, which is said to be an 8.2 TCF and liquids rich conventional gas-condensate target.
