Acelen Renewables adopts Honeywell’s Ecofining for sustainable aviation fuel in Brazil

Honeywell (Nasdaq: HON) has announced a significant step in sustainable fuel production as Acelen Renewables adopts its innovative Ecofining technology. This agreement marks Honeywell’s 50th site to license its renewable fuels technology, with Acelen Renewables aiming to produce 20,000 barrels per day of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel at their Bahia, Brazil facility.

Ecofining: A Solution for Sustainable Aviation and Diesel

The Ecofining process, a collaborative development by Honeywell and Eni SpA, has emerged as a leading solution for converting waste fats, oils, and greases into renewable diesel and SAF. The technology significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions, offering up to an 80% reduction compared to conventional fossil fuels when blended with traditional jet fuel.

Rising Demand and International Decarbonization Initiatives

Honeywell’s renewable fuels technologies, including Ecofining, have seen a surge in demand, paralleling global decarbonization efforts, particularly in air travel. Initiatives like the SAF Grand Challenge in the U.S. and the European Council’s ‘Fit for 55’ package are key drivers in expanding SAF production, supporting the broader energy transition and the aviation industry’s quest for net-zero emissions.

Honeywell’s Milestone and Global Impact

Acelen Renewables’ Ambitious Biofuel Goals

Acelen Renewables joins a global list of companies utilizing Honeywell’s technology, such as BP, CVR Energy, and Total Energies. With Honeywell’s Ecofining process, Acelen Renewables aims to produce one billion liters of renewable diesel and SAF annually by 2026, positioning themselves as a leading biofuel producer.
