Woodside Energy’s FPSO arrives offshore Senegal, paving way for Sangomar Field’s first production

Woodside Energy announced a significant development in Senegal’s oil and gas sector with the arrival of the Léopold Sédar Senghor Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) facility offshore, approximately 100 kilometers from Dakar. This event marks a pivotal phase in the Sangomar Field Development Phase 1, setting the stage for first oil production targeted for mid-2024. The FPSO, having traveled from Singapore, is now positioned to commence the commissioning process and hook-up of 23 production, gas, and water injection wells.

Woodside CEO Meg O’Neill highlighted the importance of this milestone in Senegal’s energy journey, stating, “The FPSO arrival brings us closer to first production which is targeted for mid-2024. We are proud to be Senegal’s first offshore oil project and firmly believe that this project will prove to be important to Senegal’s future development and prosperity.” O’Neill emphasized the project’s role in fostering local economic growth, capability building, and employment opportunities through strategic partnerships with the Senegalese Government, local businesses, and communities.

The Sangomar Field Development is a testament to the strong collaboration between Woodside Energy Senegal B.V., the Senegalese National Oil Company (PETROSEN), and key contractors including MODEC for FPSO construction and operations, Subsea Integration Alliance for subsea infrastructure, and Diamond Offshore for drilling services.

Woodside, as the operator of the Rufisque Offshore, Sangomar Offshore, and Sangomar Deep Offshore (RSSD) joint venture, holds an 82% interest in the Sangomar exploitation area, with PETROSEN holding the remaining 18%. For the broader RSSD evaluation area, Woodside’s interest is 90%, with PETROSEN holding 10%.

The Sangomar Field, with its stand-alone FPSO and subsea infrastructure, is expected to have a production capacity of approximately 100,000 barrels per day.
