Women BJP MPs slam Rahul Gandhi for alleged flying kiss gesture in Parliament
In a sensational turn of events in the Lok Sabha, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s alleged gesture during a no-trust debate this afternoon has set the political corridors abuzz. Allegedly mirroring his infamous 2018 ‘hug and wink’, Rahul Gandhi stoked the flames once more by supposedly blowing a ‘flying kiss’ in the direction of BJP stalwart, Smriti Irani.
Smriti Irani’s Fiery Counter
In an immediate and fiery riposte, Smriti Irani did not mince words in lambasting Rahul Gandhi’s “undignified conduct”. She conveyed her deep objection to the act, stressing the disrepute such behavior brings to a Parliament that has female representation. Expressing that such antics were unprecedented, Smriti Irani boldly indicated that only a “misogynistic man” could perform such an act in Parliament’s hallowed chambers.
Chorus of Discontent from Female MPs
Leading the charge alongside Irani, BJP leader Shobha Karandlaje was at the forefront of a group of female ministers and MPs voicing their collective indignation. Their grievance was directed squarely at the ‘obscene’ gesture of the Congress scion, compelling them to lodge a formal complaint with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. The Union Minister did not hold back in her criticism, questioning Rahul Gandhi’s propriety and highlighting the unprecedented nature of such behavior in India’s Parliamentary history. The MPs, in their fervor, sought to procure CCTV footage, eager to further their case against Gandhi.
A Trip Down Memory Lane
This isn’t the first time Rahul Gandhi has courted controversy in such a manner. Drawing parallels to a 2018 incident, he had previously grabbed headlines by winking post hugging PM Narendra Modi during a debate on the no-confidence motion. PM Modi, back then, had taken a jibe at Rahul Gandhi’s antics, subtly hinting at his “arrogance” and undue haste to occupy the PM’s seat.
