Thales bags 10-year contract from US GPO for US passport eCovers

French IT company Thales has bagged a contract from the US Government Publishing Office (GPO) to provide US passport eCovers for the next 10 years.

Thales is said to supply ePassport solutions for 40-plus national programs globally.

From 2005 to now, Thales has delivered more than 127 million electronic passport covers. The company also collaborated with the US Government Publishing Office to offer secure technology and components for American passport covers.

The US Government Publishing Office produces the US passport, including several of its components for the Department of State, which creates a customized version of the book to suit the needs of American travelers, government officials, and diplomats.

Integrating security technologies for electronic devices into durable passport covers adds another level of security as the data stored electronically is safe from alteration and fraud, said Thales.

The French ePassport solutions provider said that its eCovers maximize and integrate the essential features of the ePassport high quality, security, and durability.
