Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a key player in the renewable energy sector and a subsidiary of Tata Power, has signed two substantial Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd. (MSEDCL). These agreements are for commissioning two solar power projects in Maharashtra, with capacities of 200 MW and 150 MW, respectively.

These strategically located projects in Maharashtra will be pivotal in achieving the state’s renewable energy goals. The 200 MW solar project under phase 9 tender will generate 536 million units of power, while the 150 MW solar project under phase 7 tender will generate 389 million units of power. They are expected to be commissioned by mid-2025, contributing substantially to the country’s efforts to foster renewable energy adoption and tackle climate change.

Moreover, these solar installations will annually reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 4,28,800 tons and 3,11,200 tons, respectively. This move is a significant step towards creating a sustainable energy future for Maharashtra and the nation as a whole.

As part of the agreement, TPREL will deliver clean and sustainable electricity to MSEDCL. The total renewables capacity of TPREL now stands at 7,783 MW, with an installed capacity of 4,118 MW (Solar – 3,136 MW & Wind – 982 MW) and 3,665 MW under various stages of implementation, including the present 350 MW.

TPREL’s current tie-up with MSEDCL consists of 930 MW, out of which 334 MW is already supplied, and the balanced 596 MW is planned to be commissioned within the next 12-18 months.

These initiatives by TPREL and MSEDCL mark a remarkable milestone in Maharashtra’s pursuit of renewable energy. The integration of these solar projects aligns with India’s ongoing efforts to enhance sustainable energy solutions, reflecting a strong commitment to environmental stewardship and a brighter, cleaner future.
