Suzlon Group has bagged a contract to develop a 50.4MW wind power project in Karnataka for Green Infra Wind Energy Limited, a renewables subsidiary of Sembcorp.
Under the terms of the contract, Suzlon will supply and install 24 wind turbine generators (WTGs) with a hybrid lattice tubular (HLT) tower. Each of the turbines will have a rated capacity of 2.1MW.
Expected to begin operations in 2024, the wind power project will meet the energy requirements of railways for traction in Maharashtra.
Suzlon will be responsible for executing the wind farm, including erection and commissioning along with operation and maintenance services after its commissioning.
Sembcorp won the 50.4MW capacity through a tariff‐based bidding process held by Railway Energy Management Company Limited (REMCL).
According to Suzlon, a project of this size can meet the power requirements of nearly 33,000 households, while offsetting around 1.29 lakh tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.
JP Chalasani — Suzlon Group CEO said: “As the country’s leading renewable energy solutions provider, Suzlon is delighted that valued customers like Sembcorp, continue to choose our leading technology and capabilities across the value chain of wind energy.
“We are proud that our partnership with Sembcorp will assist Indian Railways to become a net‐zero carbon emitter by the end of this decade thereby contributing to a sustainable India.”
