QatarEnergy, a leading entity in the global energy sector, has officially announced its plans to proceed with the North Field West (NFW) project, an ambitious LNG expansion initiative aimed at significantly increasing the State of Qatar’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) production capacity. The project is set to elevate the country’s production capabilities to an impressive 142 million tons per annum (MTPA) before the end of this decade, which signifies an almost 85% increase from its current levels.

H.E. Mr. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, the esteemed Minister of State for Energy Affairs and the President and CEO of QatarEnergy, unveiled the project during a press conference at QatarEnergy’s headquarters in Doha. This announcement underlines Qatar’s strategic commitment to bolstering its position as a leading LNG producer globally.

The NFW project stems from extensive appraisal drilling and testing that confirmed the extension of the productive layers of Qatar’s giant North Field towards the west. This extension facilitates the development of a new LNG production sector in Ras Laffan. H.E. Minister Al-Kaabi expressed satisfaction with the findings, attributing the success to rigorous geological and engineering studies and the drilling of several appraisal wells in the area.
