ProAmpac innovates sandwich packaging with sustainable RAP Wedge
ProAmpac, a flexible packaging company, has introduced its fiber-based Modified Atmosphere (MA) Packaging RAP Sandwich Wedge to the North American market, in a significant move toward enhancing product freshness and sustainability.
Primarily designed for sandwiches and wraps, the innovative package cleverly merges the benefits of modified atmosphere packaging with sustainable fiber materials. This market entry serves as a response to growing demands for decreased food spoilage, eco-friendly packaging, and an improved consumer experience in the food-to-go market.
ProAmpac’s RAP Sandwich Wedge has been engineered to maximize product preservation and visibility, with the potential to keep food fresh for up to 28 days. It combines a carton board structure with a thin film lining, utilizing high barrier technology for optimal hermeticity.
When paired with gas-flush filling technology, this packaging innovation further extends product shelf-life, simultaneously increasing sales potential and reducing food waste due to its longer transit and selling time.
Additionally, the RAP Sandwich Wedge boosts the visual appeal of grab-and-go sandwiches or wraps, transforming them into premium options with custom graphics and branding printed directly on the pack. This packaging innovation also brings operational efficiencies for food retailers, as sandwiches packed upstream using MA technology can maximize onsite labor.
ProAmpac’s breakthrough approach in packaging sets a new benchmark in the food-to-go industry for both freshness and sustainability.
Kevin Vyse — ProAmpac technical head said: “The RAP Sandwich Wedge boasts wide recyclability. Consumers can peel away the film liner, and the carton board is easily recycled in paper streams. Crafted from responsibly sourced fiber and utilizing less plastic packaging than conventional rigid containers, the RAP Sandwich Wedge significantly reduces packaging waste.”
