Nokia to provide managed infrastructure services for BDBOS network

Nokia has been selected to offer technical, maintenance, and management services to the German nationwide Federal Agency for Public Safety Digital Radio (BDBOS) public safety digital radio network.

The Finnish telecommunications company said that has trained its employees and launched in December 2020 with all services and logistic sites equipped and ready for deployment, which are now 100% operational.

As per the initial four-year contract, Nokia will provide mission-critical communications infrastructure for German national, federal and local Public Protection and Disaster relief agencies.

Nokia will deliver the highest levels of network availability with an extensive range of managed infrastructure services.

The company will support a network-wide IP migration program that will see 8,000 plus technical modifications through system upgrades at base station sites.

Nokia will help to move Digitalfunk BOS network to IP from TETRA TDM by delivering the service as part of the BDBOS Mildlife Upgrade program. This will ease system architecture, boost flexibility, and enable integration with related communications systems.

Nokia will take care of process change and equipment life-cycle management, third-party equipment supply, data and service level management, and network documentation apart from technical and maintenance services.

It will also handle the integration of third-party products and parties and also close coordination with regulatory authorities.

The BDBOS network, which has over 962,000 subscribers, handles nearly 47 million calls every month. The network is said to provide fast, reliable nationwide, cross-organizational communications and enables efficient and safe implementation of complex missions, particularly in crisis and disaster situations.

The network incorporates 4,800 plus base stations and offers radio coverage for 99.2% in Germany.
