Nokia and Google Cloud enhance collaboration to accelerate 5G application development

Nokia has announced an expansion of its partnership with Google Cloud, aiming to provide developers globally with advanced tools to create innovative 5G applications for both enterprise and consumer markets more swiftly.

The collaboration now integrates Nokia’s Network as Code platform with Google Cloud, providing developers with access to cutting-edge AI solutions and capabilities such as Vertex AI and Gemini 1.5 Pro. This integration is set to significantly enhance the developer experience, enabling the easy incorporation of AI into applications and boosting productivity with AI-driven coding assistance.

One of the initial industry focuses of this partnership is healthcare, aiming to deliver improved and safer customer experiences through specialized 5G applications. This is part of a broader strategy to engage Google Cloud’s vast developer community, which spans all major industries and geographies, offering them standardized 5G network capabilities exposed through Nokia’s developer portal.

Google Cloud developers stand to gain substantial benefits from this collaboration. They will have universal access to standardized 5G network capabilities, which are crucial for rapidly creating and deploying new applications tailored to specific customer needs across various sectors.

Nokia’s platform is designed to unify telecommunications networks, systems integrators, and software developers into a cohesive ecosystem. This ecosystem accelerates the development of software applications leveraging 5G and 4G capabilities. It offers a range of tools including Software Development Kits (SDKs), network API documentation, a sandbox for simulation and testing, and code snippets for application development. The platform operates on a revenue-sharing model among developers, operators, and Nokia, promoting a collaborative development environment.

Since its inception in September 2023, Nokia’s initiative has garnered collaboration agreements with 13 network operators and ecosystem partners across Europe, North America, and South America. This global engagement underscores the platform’s significant impact and the growing importance of 5G networks in fostering innovation across multiple sectors.
