In a historic event, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the plaque marking the inauguration of the new Parliament building in New Delhi on Sunday.

The ceremony took place after a traditional puja and havan, where the Prime Minister received the symbolic `Sengol` from the Adheenams’ seers. He then proceeded to install the `Sengol` near the Lok Sabha Speaker’s Chair inside the new Parliament building, accompanied by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.

During the inauguration, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Speaker Om Birla jointly revealed the plaque, signifying the official opening of the new Parliament building. In a gesture of appreciation, the Prime Minister felicitated the workers who contributed to the construction and development of the magnificent structure by presenting them with shawls and mementos.

Following the inauguration, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Speaker Om Birla, and Cabinet ministers participated in a Sarva-dharma (all-religious) prayer ceremony at the new Parliament building. The day commenced with an early morning havan, and the event was attended by representatives from 25 political parties and numerous dignitaries, including chief ministers and ministers.

Notably, several prominent figures were present at the ceremony, including Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, S Jaishankar, and Jitendra Singh, as well as chief ministers from various states and BJP president JP Nadda. However, the event faced controversy as 20 opposition parties, including the Congress, decided to boycott the inauguration of the four-storey Parliament House.

Despite the opposition’s absence, the inauguration of the new Indian Parliament building marks a significant milestone in India’s democratic history.
