Freshly, a fresh-prepared meal delivery service in the US announced plans to open a new facility in the City of Commerce in Los Angeles County in California in a move to expand its food manufacturing operations on the US west coast.

The new 111,260 square foot USDA-approved facility will start operating in December.

Freshly said that the new Los Angeles facility is expected to significantly boost its order fulfillment and production capacity in line with the surging demand for its fresh, chef-cooked meals.

It is estimated to boost the meal production capacity of the company by 20%.

The Freshly facility is likely to generate more than 130 new jobs.

It will have dedicated refrigeration, freezer, and assembly areas for enabling Freshly to easily and efficiently prepare and assemble products.

The second phase of operations of the facility will start in March 2021, which will grow the company’s order fulfillment capacity by 22%.

“As more people look to balance convenience and nutrition with their meals and shift to ordering food online, this Los Angeles facility will help us continue to scale and meet growing consumer demand.”

The announcement of the new facility follows the company’s recent launch of its B2B platform called Freshly for Business.

The fresh-prepared meal delivery service claims to have doubled the number of its orders last year and that it is on track to have dispatched around 50 million meals by the end of 2020 to more than 20,000 zip codes in the US.

Richard Stoecklein – Freshly Senior Vice President of Operations said: “The new LA facility gives Freshly the opportunity to expand both its manufacturing capacity and menu variety. In addition to bringing new jobs to the local area, the strategic geographic location of the facility will allow Freshly to reduce the Order-to-Delivery cycle time to our West Coast customer base”.

Freshly’s other facilities are located in Linden in New Jersey, Savage in Maryland, and Phoenix in Arizona.
