Lilly to build $1bn manufacturing plant in Concord, North Carolina

Eli Lilly and Company (Lilly) said that it will invest more than $1 billion to build a new manufacturing plant in Concord, North Carolina.

The new facility will be engaged in manufacturing parenteral (injectable) products and devices and boost the manufacturing capacity of the US pharma giant. It will generate close to 600 new jobs for scientists, manufacturing personnel, and engineers.

The Lilly manufacturing plant in Concord will involve 500 personnel for its construction.

“Expanding our manufacturing footprint in North Carolina enables us to continue to produce today’s medicines while providing additional capacity to manufacture the medicines of tomorrow. We are pleased to again partner with North Carolina to bring jobs to American workers and provide more medicines that patients need to address health challenges.”

Lilly had announced a $470 million investment in 2020 in the Research Triangle Park in North Carolina. According to the pharma major, the new Concord manufacturing plant in conjunction with the Research Triangle Park site will enable it to bolster relationships with local governments as well as universities and diversify its footprint in the American state.

North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper said: “Lilly’s choice brings more good jobs to North Carolina from one of our most important industries.

“North Carolina has become a premier hub for the world, thanks to our exceptional workforce and commitment to education.”

The investment in Lilly manufacturing plant in Concord is subject to completion of the county and municipal government permitting and associated approvals.
