Indian automobile company Ashok Leyland creates new ESG committee

Ashok Leyland, an Indian commercial vehicle manufacturer, has formed a new environmental, social, and governance (ESG) committee of the board headed by an independent director.

The flagship company of the Hinduja Group said that the ESG committee will be responsible for providing suitable oversight and guidance in its journey on organization-wide initiatives in ESG, priorities, and prevailing ESG practices.

Dheeraj Hinduja – Chairman of Ashok Leyland said: “We are pleased to institute this new ESG Committee of our Board. This Committee will help accelerate adoption of leading ESG practices into the business and bring added focus on being sustainable and socially responsible.

Ashok Leyland said that the company’s ESG initiatives will be overseen by N V Balachander in the role of president. N V Balachander will lead the sustainability agenda within the automobile company and work with the newly created board committee for creating new benchmarks in sustainability for the automobile sector.
