Indian auto giant Mahindra & Mahindra sells 61.4k vehicles in May 2023

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M Ltd.), one of India’s prominent automotive companies, has disclosed its impressive performance in the auto sales domain for the month of May 2023.

The company’s overall auto sales reached an impressive 61,415 vehicles, signaling its continued dominance in the market.

Within the utility vehicles segment, Mahindra recorded the sale of 32,883 vehicles in the domestic market. Overall, including exports, the total figure reached an impressive 33,931 vehicles. Additionally, the company’s Small Commercial Vehicles (LCV < 3.5T) witnessed domestic sales of 19,053 vehicles.

However, despite the overall positive performance, Mahindra faced temporary setbacks in the sales volume of SUVs and PikUps due to a short-term disruption in engine-related parts at the supplier end. Moreover, the semiconductor supply constraints continued to impact specific parts, such as the Air Bag ECU, throughout the month.

Veejay Nakra — Mahindra & Mahindra president of the Automotive Division said that the company continues to experience strong demand for SUVs, contributing to our growth trend. In May, a domestic growth rate of 23% was achieved, with a total of 33,931 units sold.

Furthermore, substantial year-on-year growth in the three-wheelers and export segments was witnessed in the reported month by Mahindra & Mahindra. Nevertheless, the sales volume of SUVs and PikUps was hindered by the temporary disruption in engine-related parts from our suppliers, said Veejay Nakra.

The semiconductor supply constraints, including those affecting parts like the Air Bag ECU, persisted throughout the month, added the Mahindra & Mahindra automotive unit’s president.
