Mahindra’s farm equipment sector reports August 2023 sales growth

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.’s Farm Equipment Sector (FES) revealed its tractor sales for August 2023, marking a significant uptick in domestic sales. The report shows that Mahindra sold 20,647 units in the domestic market, compared to 20,138 units in August 2022, reflecting a growth of 3%.

Overall, Mahindra’s total tractor sales, which include both domestic and exports, reached 21,676 units for August 2023. This is a marginal increase from 21,520 units sold during the same period last year. Notably, exports for the month stood at 1,029 units.

Hemant Sikka, President of Mahindra’s Farm Equipment Sector, commented on the robust performance: “Despite a 9% monsoon deficit at the end of August, Kharif sowing is largely on track. Terms of trade continue to be favorable for the farmer, with input inflation cooling off and crop prices holding firm. We expect tractor demand to grow in the coming months, especially with the upcoming festive season. In the exports market, we have sold 1,029 tractors.”

The year-to-date figures also shed light on the sales performance of Mahindra’s Farm Equipment Sector. Domestic tractor sales from the beginning of the fiscal year to the end of August show a slight increase of 1%, reaching 1,56,690 units as compared to 1,55,205 units in the same period last year. However, tractor exports saw a decline of 26% compared to August 2022, leading to a total year-to-date drop of 36% in export numbers.
