Greenleaf Foods invests in vegan seafood maker Gathered Foods
Greenleaf Foods, SPC, owner of the Lightlife and Field Roast Grain Meat plant-based protein brands, has invested $5 million in US-based Gathered Foods Corporation, which owns the Good Catch plant-based seafood products.
The investment was made in a Series B preferred share financing round of the plant-based seafood producer.
Dan Curtin – President of Greenleaf Foods, SPC said: “Plant-based seafood is a promising and relatively untapped segment of the plant-based protein market which we believe means there is terrific growth potential.”
Gathered Foods will use the proceeds from the funding for supporting its growth plans such as expanding the distribution of its plant-based seafood products worldwide, new product launches, and the construction of a new production facility.
Founded by chefs Chad Sarno and Derek Sarno, Good Catch produces 100% plant-based seafood alternatives which are claimed to offer the taste, nutrition, texture, and experience of seafood without causing any harm to the environment.
Good Catch Plant Based Fish-Free Tuna is available across the US in three flavor offerings, which include Naked in Water, Oil & Herbs, and Mediterranean.
Dan Curtin added: “Investing in Gathered Foods, an innovative company committed to developing sustainable plant-based seafood products that taste delicious, is an excellent fit with both our business strategy and our sustainability goals. We are very excited by the talent, vision and innovation of the Good Catch team and are looking forward to our partnership with them.”
Based in Chicago, Greenleaf Foods, SPC was launched in October 2018 by Canadian consumer packaged meats company Maple Leaf Foods.
