Italian oil and gas giant Eni has been awarded the P2511 licence, a new production licence in the UK part of the North Sea, during the 32nd UK Offshore Licensing Round.
The P2511 licence is spread over an area of around 340 square kilometers. It is located nearly 250km offshore UK in the Northern North Sea in a water depth in the range of 100-130m.
According to Eni, the P2511 licence is located near the UK/Norwegian border where various significant discoveries were made in recent times.
The offshore UK concession has an initial exploration term of six years and Eni UK will be its operator with a 100% stake.
Eni stated: “Through the Licence participation, Eni renews its commitment to the valorisation of resources in the UK sector of the North Sea where the company has been operating for over 50 years.”
The Italian oil and gas company has been operating in the UK since 1964.
Presently, Eni has a production of 55 Kboed in the UK. Last October, the company won a carbon storage licence in the Liverpool Bay area in the East Irish Sea.
