Cadila Healthcare (Zydus) begins supply of ZyCoV-D vaccine to Indian govt

Cadila Healthcare (Zydus) said that it has commenced the supplies of ZyCoV-D, the company’s Covid-19 vaccine to the Indian government.

The first consignment of the ZyCoV-D vaccine has been delivered already from the company’s newly commissioned Zydus Vaccine Technology Excellence Centre at the Zydus Biotech Park in Changodar, Ahmedabad. It can be noted that Zydus had bagged a contract from the Indian government in November 2021 for the supply of one crore doses of the ZyCoV-D plasmid DNA Covid-19 vaccine.

Zydus also has plans to make its Covid-19 vaccine available in the private market.

ZyCoV-D, which is a three-dose plasmid DNA vaccine, has to be intradermally administered by using the painless PharmaJet needle free system, Tropis, on day 0, day 28, and day 56.

The Zydus Covid-19 vaccine will have a price of INR 265 per dose and the applicator is priced at NR 93 per dose after the exclusion of GST.

The manufacturing of the drug substance of the needle-free DNA plasmid vaccine is being carried out by Zydus VTEC. The manufacturing process and in process material transfers within the facility are automated, said Zydus.

Zydus revealed that it has signed an agreement with Shilpa Medicare, a contract manufacturing organization, to produce mutually agreeable doses of the ZyCoV-D Covid-19 vaccine.

Additionally, Zydus has signed a deal with South Korea-based Enzychem Lifesciences for the manufacturing license and technology transfer for the plasmid DNA Vaccine.
