Ugar Sugar Works announces Rs 151cr ethanol expansion project

Ugar Sugar Works said that it will invest INR 151 crores for an ethanol expansion project at its Ugar plant in Ugar Khurd in Belagavi district, Karnataka.

As part of this, the Indian sugar manufacturer will set up a 200 kilo litre per day (KLPD) distillery at the Ugar sugar factory. The company’s current capacity at the plant is 75 KLPD.

Ugar Sugar Works will cover the investment needed for the ethanol expansion project through INR 113.1 crores bank loan and INR 37.9 crores from internal accruals.

The sugar manufacturer said that the project has been announced in line with the policy of the Indian government for an increase in the blending of ethanol in fuel.

According to Ugar Sugar Works, the proposed distillery will use sugarcane juice or syrup during the crushing season, and in the off-season will produce from B and C heavy molasses for the continuous manufacture of ethanol.

Ugar Sugar Works, which is the flagship organization of the Shirgaokar Group of Companies, manufactures white crystal sugar.
