Two dead, four injured in Vizag pharma city explosion

Vizag fire accident news : A fire accident at the Jawaharlal Nehru Pharma City near Visakhapatnam on Tuesday left two employees dead and four injured who had survived burn injuries.

The incident happened after a reactor exploded at one of the active pharmaceutical ingredient units at the Vizag pharma city, located about 50kms from Vizagat at Parwada.

The  blast at the Vizag pharma city took place at Azico Biophore where the exact reason for the explosion is yet to be known.

According to a report in The Hindu which cited Joint Inspector of Factories D. Chandrasekhar Varma, the incident happened during a cleaning operation using a solvent to prepare a new product.

Explosion in Vizag Pharma City Leaves Two Dead


The damage was more or less controlled by the timely action of the fire tenders of Ramky, the developers of the Jawaharlal Nehru Pharma City.

As per The Hindu story, the licence of Azico Biphore was suspended along with four other units in the pharma city by the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board in October last year for not complying with the standards on waste disposal. However, the order was revoked at the Vizag pharma city after few months after Azico Biphore was found to follow the norms.
