Titagarh Rail Systems launches second 25T Bollard Pull Tug “Bahubali” for Indian Navy
In a significant boost to India’s naval capabilities, Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL) has successfully launched its second 25T Bollard Pull Tug, named Bahubali, for the Indian Navy. This event took place at TRSL’s facility in Titagarh, Barrackpore, underscoring the company’s commitment to the Ministry of Defence’s Make in India initiative. This launch is part of a larger order secured by TRSL in November 2021, comprising six 25 BP tugs, demonstrating the company’s prowess and dedication to enhancing India’s maritime strength.
The ceremony for Bahubali was attended by notable guests, including Commodore Atul Maini, President SSB (Kolkata), and Commodore S. Sreekumar, Warship Production Superintendent (Kolkata), among other distinguished personnel from the Indian Navy and TRSL. The event not only celebrated the launch of Bahubali but also the keel laying of the fourth 25T Bollard Pull Tug, Yuvan (Yard 338), showcasing the rapid progress TRSL is making in fulfilling its commitments to the Indian Navy.
Umesh Chowdhary, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of TRSL, highlighted the significance of the event, stating, “It is a momentous day for us at TRSL; after launching the first tug earlier this year, we have launched the second tug in a record time, which is within just 2 months of launching the first one. This underscores a substantial milestone in our commitment to bolstering India’s naval capabilities, and we are diligently progressing with the remaining vessels to meet the promised timeline.”
The 25T BP Tug Bahubali boasts an array of advanced features designed to enhance its operational efficiency in diverse maritime operations. Equipped with two powerful engines generating 1200 BHP @1800 RPM each, the tug offers exceptional thrust and manoeuvrability thanks to its azimuth thrusters. This capability ensures precise handling of large vessels, making Bahubali a vital asset for the Indian Navy. The tug is also equipped with an external firefighting system, communication, and navigation equipment, making it prepared for various emergency conditions and ensuring the safety and effectiveness of maritime operations.
TRSL’s involvement in the construction of naval vessels, including five Diving Support Craft and six 25 BP tugs, aligns with transformative policies initiated by the Government of India, such as Make in India and Atma Nirbhar Bharat. These efforts signify a robust commitment to strengthening India’s self-reliance in the defense sector and enhancing its maritime security capabilities.
