Tata Power, Zoomcar ink MoU to accelerate EV adoption and charging infrastructure
Tata Power EV Charging Solutions Limited (TPEVCSL), a Tata Power group company, and Zoomcar, a major player in the car-sharing marketplace, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to bolster electric vehicle (EV) adoption and enhance EV charging infrastructure across India. The MoU was inked in Mumbai, marking a significant step in Tata Power’s and Zoomcar’s collaborative efforts to streamline the EV charging process and make it more user-friendly.
Focus on Tata Power’s Extensive EZ Charge Points and Zoomcar’s Tech-Driven Fleet
The collaboration aims to feature Tata Power’s EZ Charge points prominently on Zoomcar’s platform. Both existing and potential EV owners, along with Zoomcar’s customer base, will gain valuable insights into Tata Power’s extensive network of over 50,000 home chargers and 4370+ public and semi-public charging points. This is expected to incentivize more people to list their electric vehicles on Zoomcar, facilitating easy access to EV charging and encouraging sustainable mobility.
Expansion Plans: A Look at the Numbers
Tata Power has an ambitious plan to set up 25,000 charging points in the next five years across 350 cities, further supporting the national EV ecosystem. On the other hand, Zoomcar boasts a fleet of over 20,000 cars across India, Indonesia, and Egypt, with plans to grow 50% of its platform by 2025. This partnership aims to drive a technological and sustainable transformation in the Indian EV market.
Industry Leaders Weigh in on the Milestone Partnership
Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO and MD of Tata Power, emphasized the importance of the collaboration: “This partnership with Zoomcar is another milestone in our journey to speed up the green mobility transition in India. As India’s leading EV charging infrastructure provider, we constantly collaborate with industry partners like Zoomcar.”
Greg Moran, CEO & Co-Founder of Zoomcar, also expressed excitement: “We are very excited to embark on this journey with Tata Power. Our car-sharing platform is perfectly suited for electric vehicles, and this partnership is poised to create a comprehensive ecosystem for EV enthusiasts.”
Tata Power’s Recent Innovations in EV Charging
Recently, Tata Power introduced an RFID card to simplify the EV charging experience. Launched in July 2023, the EZ CHARGE RFID card allows users to initiate charging at any EZ charger location nationwide simply by tapping the card. This move is part of Tata Power’s ongoing efforts to offer end-to-end EV charging infrastructure solutions, which also include a mobile app and various software subscription services.
In summary, the Tata Power and Zoomcar MoU is set to redefine the EV charging experience and encourage wider adoption of electric vehicles across India. With their extensive networks and ambitious expansion plans, both companies are well-positioned to drive sustainable mobility growth in the country.
