JSW Energy has the capital for its next growth wave, but can profits catch up with expansion?
JSW Energy Limited is combining thermal generation, renewable power, battery storage and pumped hydro investments in one of India’s most aggressive private-sector electricity expansion programmes. The company plans to spend approximately ₹20,000 crore during FY27 while targeting around 3 GW of capacity additions during the year. Its expansion is supported by ₹12,881 crore of cash and cash equivalents, recent equity-linked capital raising and future operating cash flow. However, the central question is shifting from whether JSW Energy can finance growth to whether newly commissioned assets can generate returns quickly enough to offset higher depreciation, finance costs and leverage.
