South32 Limited has begun workforce consultations at its Groote Eylandt manganese operation after persistent flooding, groundwater inflows and rising costs increased pressure on the Northern Territory mine. No final redundancy number has been disclosed, making the workforce review part of a larger question about whether additional water infrastructure and lower operating costs can restore the asset's long-term competitiveness.
