QatarEnergy and Chevron Phillips Chemical (CPChem) have initiated the construction of a monumental $6 billion integrated polymers complex in Ras Laffan Industrial City, Qatar. This significant event was marked by a groundbreaking ceremony where His Highness the Amir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, laid the foundation stone, signifying the commencement of a project poised to redefine the petrochemical landscape in the Middle East.

Spanning 435 acres, the project site is set to house the largest ethane cracker in the Middle East, with a production capacity of 2,080 KTA of ethylene, positioning it among the largest globally. Additionally, it will feature two high-density polyethylene derivative units, collectively capable of producing 1,680 KTA. This strategic expansion aligns with CPChem’s objective to bolster its presence in regions rich in feedstock and to cater to the surging global demand for polyethylene products.
