Petrobras finds hydrocarbons in Block C-M-657 well in Campos Basin

Petróleo Brasileiro S.A (Petrobras) said that it has identified the presence of hydrocarbons in the Well 1-BRSA-1376D-RJS (Naru) of Block C-M-657 in the pre-salt of the Campos Basin.

According to the Brazilian national oil company, the Naru well was drilled nearly 308km from the city of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, in water depth of 2,892 meters. The exploratory well has confirmed traces of hydrocarbons in carbonate reservoirs of the pre-salt section.

Petrobras said that there will be analysis of well data to better understand the potential and determine the exploratory activities in the area.

The Brazilian national oil company acquired Block C-M-657 in March 2018 during the 15th bidding round of the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), under the Concession regime.

Petrobras has an operatorship stake of 30% in the block, which is located in the southern part of the Campos Basin. It is partnered by ExxonMobil (40%) and Equinor (30%) in the offshore Brazilian block.
