PepsiCo to launch nitrogen-infused cola Nitro Pepsi in late March
American soft drinks giant PepsiCo is set to launch Nitro Pepsi, a nitrogen-infused cola, in the US, in two flavors – Draft Cola and Vanilla Draft Cola.
The launch date has been fixed for 28 March 2022 with the new nitrogen-infused cola to be available in newly designed cans in single serve and four-pack varieties.
According to PepsiCo, Nitro Pepsi is softer than a soft drink, and is creamy, smooth and has a topping cascade of tiny bubbles, which are topped off by a frothy foam head.
The soft drinks company said that the smaller bubbles in Nitro Pepsi are also infused with nitrogen to form a smooth, creamy texture, which has been possible through a widget placed at the bottom of the cans.
PepsiCo claimed that it is the first time this kind of widget technology, which is usually seen in beer and coffee products, is being used to the cola category.
The beverage and snacks firm said that Nitro Pepsi does not appear and taste like a conventional cola or soda, and is best consumed differently, served cold, ideally without ice, hard poured or fully inverted into a tall glass, or sipped directly from the glass without a straw.
Todd Kaplan — Pepsi Marketing VP, commenting on Nitro Pepsi launch, said: “While soda has been a beverage of choice for so many consumers over the past century, some people still cite heavy carbonation as a barrier to enjoying an ice-cold cola. With this in mind, we wanted to come up with a new way for people to enjoy delicious Pepsi cola, but with a new experience around the bubbles.
“Nitro Pepsi is a first-of-its-kind innovation that creates a smooth, creamy, delicious taste experience for fans everywhere. Much like how nitrogen has transformed the beer and coffee categories, we believe Nitro Pepsi is a huge leap forward for the cola category and will redefine cola for years to come.”
