Nao Victoria floating offshore wind farm : IberBlue Wind to develop 990MW project in Andalusia

IberBlue Wind, a Spanish-Irish renewable energy company, is planning to develop the 990MW Nao Victoria floating offshore wind farm in Andalusia, Spain.

To this effect, the joint venture between Ireland-based Simply Blue Group and the Spanish duo of Proes Consultores and Grupo Amper’s engineering division — FF New Energy Ventures has submitted the Initial Project Document to the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO).

The Nao Victoria floating offshore wind farm will be situated off the Cadiz and Malaga coasts and will spread over an area of 310sqkm in the Alboran Sea.

The proposed floating offshore wind project will feature 55 turbines and will have minimum installation impact as it will be situated 25-40km from the coast.

The Nao Victoria floating wind farm will be supported by floating platforms anchored to the seabed, allowing the wind turbines to be placed deeper in the sea.

Adrián de Andrés — IberBlue Wind vice president said: “Andalusia is an area with great potential for development of floating offshore wind energy and with this wind project we want to contribute to the region’s positioning on the offshore wind sector.”

The floating wind project in Spain is expected to supply electricity to hundreds of thousands of homes and support the region’s economy.

IberBlue Wind is also working on the development of other projects in Galicia and Portugal. The joint venture targets to develop offshore wind energy capacity of approximately 2GW off the peninsula, including wind farms each of 500MW or more.
