Tragic discovery of migrants in blazing inferno – Is this Greece’s deadliest fire yet?
A heart-wrenching revelation came to light when 18 suspected migrants met their tragic end amidst the ferocious wildfires blazing in northeastern Greece. The fire’s rage, which showed no signs of slowing down, previously forced an urgent evacuation of dozens from a hospital in the port city of Alexandroupolis.
The ever-expanding inferno is not limited to just Alexandroupolis! Fires continue to engulf the Greek islands of Evia and Boeotia, sending countless villagers fleeing for their lives. An eerie backdrop to this devastation was the discovery of the bodies, made near the village of Avantas – a notorious hotspot for illegal entries.
As clues unfold, Fire brigade spokesperson Ioannis Artopios suggests the real story is far more chilling. The deceased might have been migrants trying to find sanctuary. “Could this be the fate of those who vanished into thin air?” he insinuated, revealing that search operations continue in the fire’s aftermath.

But that’s not all! In a jaw-dropping twist, a university hospital turned into a chaotic escape scene. Imagine 65 patients, some critically ill, being hurried onto a ferry, repurposed as an emergency hospital, amidst looming flames. An oxygen explosion added to the terrifying tableau, casting a fiery glow over the port city.
With Alexandroupolis looking like a scene straight out of an apocalypse movie, over 200 brave firefighters are waging a relentless war against the flames. Aided by aircraft and helicopters, their battle is against a beastly fire that roared to life near a major port and hasn’t stopped since.
As cities and villages become battlegrounds, the stories of heartache keep pouring in. The cruel flames didn’t even spare the newborns or those on their deathbeds. Nearby, a school and homes stand charred, monuments to the fire’s ruthless advance.
The inferno’s toll keeps rising. Two already dead, firefighters injured, and even a potential migrant discovered lifeless near Alexandroupolis. As gale winds stoke the flames and paint the night sky blood-red, Greece stares at one of its worst wildfire crises.
But wait, there’s more! Fires are raging elsewhere too. The islands of Evia and Kythnos are alight, and new blazes threaten Athens’s outskirts. With evacuation orders piling up, the nation braces itself for more shocking discoveries as it battles nature’s fury.
