JSW Steel’s Sajjan Jindal becomes chairman of Worldsteel

JSW Steel Ltd said that the World Steel Association (Worldsteel) has elected the company’s chairman and managing director Sajjan Jindal as its chairman for the 2021-22 period.

According to the iron and steel mills company, Sajjan Jindal becomes the first representative from India to serve in the post at World Steel Association.

Headquartered in Brussels, Belgium, World Steel Association is the international trade body for the iron and steel industry. It serves as the primary point for the steel sector.

World Steel Association is said to offer global leadership on all significant strategic issues that affect the industry, with particular emphasis on environmental, economic, and social sustainability.

The association’s members account for around 85% of the world’s total production of steel — including over 160 steel producers, national as well as regional steel industry associations and steel research institutes.

Sajjan Jindal said: “It is a privilege to serve as Chairman of the World Steel Association. The next few years look to be interesting for the global steel industry. Governments and policy makers have come to realize that in order to rebuild their economies, they need to increase their spending on infrastructure.
