Golar Power, an integrated company, and Argentina-based green energy supplier Galileo Technologies have joined forces to introduce a new clean fuel source in Brazil by producing biomethane liquefied natural gas (Bio-LNG fuel).

In this regard, the two parties have inked an agreement for providing liquefaction solutions for supporting the development of the small-scale LNG distribution initiatives of Golar Power, which is a joint venture between Golar LNG and Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners.

Galileo Technologies will be offering its 3.0 Solutions suite, comprising of gas conditioning, distributed production, LNG filling stations and regasification plants technologies for the partnership.

Horacio Andrés – Vice President of Galileo Technologies subsidiary in Brazil said: “Unlike previous generation technologies, our treatment and liquefaction technologies adapt to scattered methane sources, which frequently are those closest to consumers. That is why they were developed for Distributed Production.”

The initial order to Galileo Technologies from calls for the provision of two LNG production clusters with the first contemplating a couple of Cryobox LNG-Production Stations that will be connected to a Conditioning ZPTS Plant for producing 30 tons of LNG per day from a mature gas field in Bahia state in Brazil.

The second cluster will be installed in Sao Paulo state in Brazil, where it will capture and liquefy biomethane produced from landfills. The cluster, which will have a Cryobox Station, will initially have a capability to produce up to 15 tons of Bio-LNG fuel per day.

Operations of the LNG production clusters are anticipated to begin this year.

Eduardo Antonello – CEO said: “The agreement with Galileo further expands Golar Power’s participation in the LNG chain.  It is also a first step toward the development of new domestic LNG sources in the Brazilian market. The combination of our strategically located import and regasification terminals and extensive distribution network via the partnership with BR Distribuidora is expected to place us in a unique position to reliably serve customers throughout Brazil.

“The economics of this business are solid and represent a unique showcase for what could be replicated worldwide.  With increasing focus on CO2 emissions and carbon taxes, the opportunity to produce and distribute Bio Methane from landfills has the potential to be a significant global growth market in the years to come.”
