Freeport LNG project Train 2 begins production of LNG

McDermott International, Chiyoda International and Zachry Group said that Train 2 of the Freeport LNG project built on Quintana Island in Freeport, Texas, has started the production of liquefied natural gas (LNG).

The partners said that this project milestone is a precursor to first cargo.

Mark Coscio – McDermott Senior Vice President for North, Central and South America, commenting on the Freeport LNG project milestone, said: “First liquid for Train 2 is another great accomplishment for the Freeport LNG project.

Zachry Group, which is leading the joint venture, teamed up with McDermott for the Pre-FEED of the LNG project in 2011, followed by FEED works to help in its early development stage of the project as a one-stop shop solution provider for Trains 1 and 2.

Chiyoda joined the joint venture partnership later on for work associated with Train 3. The scope of the project includes three pre-treatment trains, a liquefaction facility comprising three trains, a second loading berth, and a full containment LNG storage tank with a capacity of 165,000 m3.

According to the partners, Trains 2 and 3 of the Freeport LNG project remain to be on schedule with the initial production of LNG from Train 3 slated for Q1 2020.
