Norwegian engineering company Aker Solutions has bagged a contract to support the development of BP’s 100% owned Cypre project located offshore Trinidad and Tobago (T&T).

The Cypre gas project involves the development of the Macadamia gas discovery made in June 2017 by .

Under the contract, Aker Solutions will be responsible for providing front-end engineering and design (FEED) for the first platform among a potential series of future assets to join the portfolio of BP in Trinidad and Tobago.

The Norwegian engineering company says that the contract comes after the successful delivery of early phase studies by its London team. The FEED study pertaining to the Cypre project will be wrapped up in the summer of 2020, said Aker Solutions.

According to the engineering firm, the FEED study could result in a full EPC contract covering green- and brownfield scopes, which will be carried out from Aits offices in London, Aberdeen, and Mumbai.

Luis Araujo – CEO of Aker Solutions said: “We are excited to be expanding the collaboration with BP to develop the oil and gas resources in Trinidad and Tobago, which is a new region for us.

“We will utilize our front-end engineering capacity to maximize the output and minimize the footprint of the project.

“We believe the Cypre project will set a new standard in ‘minimum facilities’ platform concepts, combining technology and improved processes to achieve fully unmanned operations.”

Aker Solutions says that unmanned facilities provide benefits to operators by cutting down travel and CO2 emissions apart from enhancing safety by removing the necessity of having permanent personnel offshore.

The Cypre project is operated by BP Trinidad and Tobago – a partnership between BP (70%) and Spanish energy company Repsol (30%). BP is expected to take a final investment decision on the T&T gas project in 2020.

Recently, BP Trinidad & Tobago (BPTT) announced the Ginger gas discovery near the producing Cashima Field, offshore Trinidad through the drilling of the Ginger exploration well.
