Strategic partnerships in logistics fuel growth

In the logistics sector, Clean Energy Fuels Corp. has secured agreements with major players seeking to reduce their carbon footprint. DHL signed a three-year deal to receive 100,000 gallons of RNG annually for trucks operating across California, Texas, and Arizona. The agreement marks DHL’s entry into RNG as a sustainable alternative to diesel. Meanwhile, Estes Express Lines, North America’s largest privately held freight company, committed to using 450,000 gallons of RNG annually to fuel 40 new trucks at Clean Energy’s Fort Worth station.

Long-time customer Food Express has also expanded its partnership with Clean Energy by building an RNG station in California. The station will supply 3 million gallons of RNG over ten years to power the company’s fleet of heavy-duty trucks, with the station also accessible to other fleets. SalSon Logistics, which operates in the Chicago area, signed a five-year agreement to use 500,000 gallons of RNG to fuel its fleet while transporting goods for Ikea.

Transit systems embrace renewable natural gas

Public transit agencies are emerging as key adopters of RNG, furthering their commitment to low-emission transportation. LA Metro extended its fueling contract with Clean Energy to supply 14 million gallons of RNG across five stations. Similarly, Nassau Inter-County Express (NICE) has committed to a fleet-wide transition from compressed natural gas to RNG, with an expected usage of 16.5 million gallons over five years.

Other transit agreements include a five-year contract with the City of Gardena’s GTrans for 2.5 million gallons of RNG and a deal with El Metro in Texas, supplying 1.6 million gallons for its buses. Clean Energy also secured operational and fueling contracts with Arlington Transit and the City of Santa Clarita, which will provide millions of gallons of RNG to power their fleets.

Waste management and industrial fleets lead adoption

The waste management sector has shown growing interest in RNG as a clean fuel alternative. Harris Ranch signed an agreement for 450,000 gallons annually to fuel its heavy-duty trucks, while MarBorg Industries and Burgmeier’s Hauling have committed to multi-year RNG supply agreements. Noble Environmental, a waste management company in Pennsylvania, partnered with Clean Energy to build a new RNG fueling station that will utilize landfill gas to produce 550,000 gallons annually.

In industrial applications, Van Eaton Ready Mix expanded its RNG use to fuel 102 vehicles in its concrete fleet, consuming 800,000 gallons annually. The University of California, San Diego, also signed a deal to supply 1.1 million gallons of RNG over three years for its shuttle buses and sanitation trucks.
