Ashok Leyland sets foundation for green mobility with new Uttar Pradesh plant
Ashok Leyland, a leading commercial vehicle manufacturer under the Hinduja Group umbrella in India, recently celebrated a groundbreaking ceremony for its new integrated commercial vehicle plant in Uttar Pradesh, marking a significant stride towards green mobility. The event, which took place at the Kanpur Road, Lucknow site, was honored by the presence of Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister, Shri Yogi Adityanath, alongside senior government officials, members of the Hinduja family, and stakeholders from Ashok Leyland‘s network.
This new facility, sprawling over 70 acres, is poised to become Ashok Leyland’s most modern and environmentally friendly factory globally. It’s designed to manufacture electric buses primarily, while also being equipped to produce other vehicles powered by various alternative fuels, in alignment with the company’s vision for sustainable transportation solutions.
Dheeraj Hinduja, the Executive Chairman of Ashok Leyland, emphasized the plant’s significance in advancing sustainable mobility in India and the company’s commitment to innovation and achieving Net Zero emissions goals. Shenu Agarwal, MD & CEO of Ashok Leyland, highlighted the facility’s role in catering to the rising demand for electric vehicles and contributing to the region’s development.
The plant, upon becoming operational, will initially have the capacity to produce 2,500 vehicles per year, with plans to double this output over the next decade in anticipation of the increasing demand for electric and other sustainable vehicles. This expansion aligns with Uttar Pradesh’s leadership in electric vehicle registration in India, underscoring the state government’s commitment to eco-friendly transportation.
Ashok Leyland’s new manufacturing facility represents a strategic move to position the company at the forefront of the green mobility revolution in Uttar Pradesh. This initiative not only underscores Ashok Leyland’s dedication to environmental stewardship but also sets a precedent for the automotive industry’s shift towards sustainable practices.
