ABB India opens GIS manufacturing factory in Nashik
ABB India said that it has opened a new factory in Nashik to manufacture primary and secondary gas insulated switchgear (GIS) to double its production capacity of the solid metal encapsulated devices.
The Nashik manufacturing facility will provide services to clients from various industries, including power distribution, data centers, smart cities, and transportation that includes metro and railways, ports, tunnels, highways, and other infrastructure developments.
Spanning over 78,000sft, the GIS manufacturing factory in Nashik is said to use advanced robotics to connect people, processes, and assets, and can relay data in real-time to increase efficiency.
The green factory in Nashik is claimed to optimize the utilization of energy and water. The facility also makes use of carefully chosen materials to reduce the environmental footprint over the course of its life.
As part of ABB’s Sustainability Strategy 2030 targets, the factory is also said to have met its RE100 (100% renewable energy) commitment to reach the goal of operating with low carbon emissions.
With the opening of the GIS manufacturing factory in Nashik, ABB India has also introduced PrimeGear ZX0 in India. The green switchgear is built on ABB’s ecoGIS SF6-free and Dry Air technology to support applications that go up to 12kV at the Nashik factory, which will help in the transition towards a cleaner, more efficient, and more secure future.
The robust and compact design of PrimeGear ZX0 is said to create 20 percent less heat, while also reducing energy consumption and increasing security. By utilizing SF6 alternatives, the ecoGIS decreases the risk of global warming by 100 percent, said ABB India.
PrimeGear ZX0 allows remote monitoring and minimizes the installation footprint by as much as 25% in comparison to conventional switchgear.
Sanjeev Sharma — ABB India Country Head and Managing Director said: “ABB is committed to enabling a more sustainable and resource-efficient future. We use global technology coupled with local engineering as a catalyst for introducing greener alternatives in the market.
“This new GIS factory is a testimony to ABB’s commitment towards building a self-reliant India in manufacturing and contributing to the nation’s net zero journey.”
