Wipro ropes in Päivi Rekonen as independent director

Wipro said that it has appointed Päivi Rekonen to its board of directors for a term of five years, which will come to effect on 1 October 2022.

The appointment will be subject to shareholders’ approval, said the Indian IT services provider.

Rishad Premji — Wipro Chairman said: “I am delighted to have Päivi on our Board. Wipro will greatly benefit from her knowledge and focus on digital and technology transformation, strategy creation in international markets, risk management, and organizational development.”

According to Wipro, Päivi Rekonen will be an independent director on its board. She is said to have an experience of more than 25 years in technology and banking and services. She has Master’s degrees in Social Sciences, and Economics and Business Administration from Finland’s University of Jyväskylä.

Päivi Rekonen is chair of the board of directors of SEBA Bank apart from being a board member at Konecranes, WithSecure, and Efecte.

Wipro said that Päivi Rekonen had been in executive leadership roles in the past across technology, human resources, and consulting at global firms that include Nokia, Credit Suisse, Cisco, UBS, and Adecco.

Päivi Rekonen said: “I am honored to join the Board of Wipro, a company which has innovated at scale over its seven-decade long history while remaining committed to its values and establishing a presence in over 60 countries. I look forward to contributing to its next phase of growth.”
