Vaginal Infection : Causes, Symptoms and Home Remedies

Vaginal discharge, is a vital function of the female reproductive system, is the fluid secreted by the glands in the vagina that helps to remove dead cells, bacteria and other impurities by the cervix.

Vaginal discharge keeps the vagina clean and protects from infections. But when the vaginal discharge becomes yellowish white in colour with thick consistency and foul smell, it is not normal and is caused by an infection.

Vaginal infection may be caused due to change in the balance of bacteria present in the vagina that leads to change in colour, smell and texture.  The balance may be altered due to many reasons like sexually transmitted disease, bacterial vaginosis, diabetes, cervical cancer, unprotected and indiscriminate sex with more than one partner and due to few medicines like birth control pills, antibiotics or steroids.

There may be an inflammation of the vulva associated with intense itching in and around the vagina. The pain may become intense during urination with burning sensation and during sexual intercourse.
