VA TECH WABAG (WABAG), a prominent Indian multinational group specializing in water technology, has announced a significant order win worth USD 33.5 Million from SEPCO III Electric Power Construction Corporation (SEPCO III). This order is for the Engineering and Procurement (EP) of a 20 MLD Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant (IWWTP) at the Ras Tanura Refinery Complex in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This strategic move underlines WABAG’s role as a key player in the global water treatment industry, showcasing its technological expertise and expanding footprint in the Middle East.
Project Details and Implementation
The IWWTP project, where WABAG will act as the Process and Technology Contractor, is part of a larger initiative being developed by Miahona, a leading Public-Private Partnership (PPP) developer and operator of water and wastewater projects in Saudi Arabia. The project’s off-taker is Saudi Aramco, one of the largest integrated oil and gas companies in the world. The EP scope of WABAG’s contract includes the design, engineering, procurement, supply, and supervision of installation & commissioning of the treatment plant. The facility aims to treat a complex mixture of effluents, employing advanced technologies such as biological treatment, filtration, and reverse osmosis, with the goal of reusing the treated effluent within the refinery.
Technological Advancements and Environmental Impact
WABAG’s innovative approach to wastewater treatment, which includes Wet Air Oxidation for the treatment of Spent Caustic Effluent, positions the company as a technology leader in the Oil & Gas sector. This project not only demonstrates WABAG’s capability to handle challenging wastewater treatment requirements but also its commitment to environmental sustainability by focusing on effluent reuse.

The order win is a significant milestone for WABAG, reinforcing its technology leadership and strengthening its presence in the Middle East.
