US FERC approves $3.6bn NRG Energy acquisition of Direct Energy

NRG Energy has secured approval from the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for its previously announced $3.62 billion acquisition of Direct Energy from Centrica, a British electric services company.

The US energy company said that the acquisition is likely to close in the first week of January 2021.

NRG Energy acquisition of Direct Energy was announced in July 2020.

Direct Energy is a retail provider of electricity, natural gas, and energy-related products and services in the US, catering to more than three million customers.
