Uber launches special cabs in Bengaluru for differently-abled and elders

The ride-sharing company has launched special cabs in to assist differently-abled and elderly people, which is a first of its kind initiative in .

This special program called and Uber Assist, the cabs come with an in-built ramp and extra legs space for those who use wheel chairs.

Uber launched these special services on Tuesday in co-ordination with IT services company MPhasis. This special service is first launched in Bengaluru and will be available in other cities soon.

Uber has first launched UberAccess in Asia first and it comes with a forward-facing wheelchair accessible product. As of now 50 vehicles are now pressed into service with heightened roof and hydraulic wheelchair lift on-demand.

Other vehicles which are meant for differently-abled will have side seating or seats which face back to the driver in the newly launched Uber vehicles. The seats are same like any other vehicle. The automated ramp lifts the passengers onto the vehicle.

The passengers who want to access UberAssist will have sufficient boot space for their legs and also to fit the folded wheelchairs. The Uber drivers will also assist the senior citizens or differently-abled passengers to board and alight from the cab.

The company is planning to introduce 500 of these special cabs. The Uber drivers are certified by Diversity and Equal Opportunity Centre.

So if you want to use these special services, you can book these cabs on the Uber app like all other previous cabs. The price will be on par with the Uber Premier Services.
