Tata Power said that its subsidiary Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) will build a 200MW solar power project in Solapur, Maharashtra.

In this regard, TPREL has been issued a letter of award (LoA) for the photovoltaic (PV) project from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL).

The solar power project in Solapur is expected to begin operations within 18 months from the execution date of the power purchase agreement (PPA).

Tata Power said that the Solapur power project was won via competitive bidding, which was followed by a reverse e-auction.

The Tata Group company said that its installation will offset nearly 432.94 million kg of CO2 emissions per year.

Ashish Khanna — TPREL CEO said: “We are proud that TPREL is playing a crucial role in fulfilling Maharashtra’s renewable energy targets. We have a current countrywide portfolio of more than 6.5 GW and securing yet another ‘Letter of Award’ for setting up a 200 MW solar PV project underlines the trust and confidence MSEDCL has in our execution and engineering capabilities.

“We are confident that this project will further strengthen our position as a leader in providing clean and reliable power in the state for years to come.”

With the new project win, TPREL’s total renewables capacity has gone up to 6.5GW. It has an installed capacity of nearly 4GW and 2.6GW under various phases of implementation.
