Westpac reports A$6.8bn profit as bad debt charges double and lending margins tighten
Westpac Banking Corporation has reported broadly unchanged underlying earnings despite stronger lending and deposit growth, as higher impairment charges and a narrower net interest margin offset operating improvements. Its capital position remains strong, supporting a fully franked final dividend of 77 cents per share.
