Suzlon bags order for 300MW wind power project in Karnataka from Torrent Power

Suzlon Group, an Indian renewable energy solutions provider, has won an order to develop a 300MW wind power project in Karnataka for Torrent Power Limited.

The order includes the installation of 100 wind turbine generators (WTGs) from Suzlon’s new 3 MW series, featuring a Hybrid Lattice Tubular (HLT) tower design with a rated capacity of 3 MW each. The project is scheduled to be commissioned in 2025.

This latest contract marks the sixth and largest order for Suzlon’s new 3 MW series within a month. Under the agreement, Suzlon will not only supply the wind turbines but also provide the necessary land and execute the project, including the erection and commissioning process. Post-commissioning, Suzlon will offer comprehensive operations and maintenance services to ensure the project’s long-term efficiency.

Suzlon’s 3 MW turbines are equipped with a 144-meter rotor diameter and have been specifically designed to harness low wind sites, delivering improved energy yield suitable for all wind regimes across India. With a local content ratio of 85-90% through its serial launch, this turbine series reflects Suzlon’s commitment to innovation and self-reliance in the renewable energy sector.

The S144 wind turbine generator, a key component of the 3 MW series, stands as one of the largest in India and can be extended up to 3.15 MW depending on site wind conditions. It offers a hub height of 140 meters, which can be increased to 160 meters in future serial launches, making it the tallest wind turbine in India at such heights.

The S144 fleet is expected to generate 40-43% more energy compared to Suzlon’s current model, the S120 – a 2.1 MW wind turbine. This showcases Suzlon’s ability to optimize wind resources at higher altitudes and make low-wind sites economically viable.
