Sterlite Power, a leading power transmission developer in the private sector, has achieved a significant milestone by securing the order for the Rajasthan REZ Ph-IV (Part-1-Bikaner Complex): Part-B Transmission project. This marks the company’s third Green Energy Corridor (GEC) project in Rajasthan, affirming its position as a key player in India’s renewable energy sector.

Development of Critical Infrastructure

Under the newly won Rajasthan Green Energy Corridor Project, Sterlite Power will operate on a Build, Own, Operate, Transfer (BOOT) basis for a period of 35 years. The project encompasses the development of two critical components: a 6000 MVA, 765/400kV substation at Neemrana, and two 400 kV transmission lines spanning approximately 250 kilometers. These lines will connect Neemrana with the existing Kotputli substation and include a LILO corridor connecting the existing Gurgaon-Sohna line with the Gurgaon and Sohna substations. The project was awarded through a tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) process.

Sterlite Power’s Vision for Renewable Energy

Pratik Agarwal, Managing Director of Sterlite Power, emphasized the importance of transmission infrastructure in India’s energy transition. He highlighted the project’s capability to channel approximately 8000 MW of renewable energy from the resource-rich Bikaner area to load centers in Rajasthan, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. Agarwal’s statement reaffirms the company’s commitment to building robust transmission infrastructure to address the challenges of green energy delivery.

Expanding Green Energy Portfolio

This project win significantly enhances Sterlite Power’s green energy portfolio, bringing the total number of projects under execution to eight. Notably, the company secured its first GEC project in Rajasthan, the Fatehgarh III Beawar Transmission Ltd (Phase III, Part G project), in March 2023, followed by the Beawar Transmission Ltd. (Phase III, Part-F) project in August 2023. Together with the Project B Bikaner complex, these initiatives will lead to the construction of a roughly 950 km long transmission corridor across Rajasthan. These corridors are crucial for evacuating a substantial portion of 20 GW of renewable energy from REZs in Fatehgarh, Bhadla, Ramgarh, and Bikaner.

Sterlite Power’s Pioneering Green Energy Initiatives

Sterlite Power’s commitment to pioneering green energy transmission initiatives was further demonstrated in March 2023 with the successful commissioning of its largest Green Energy Corridor Project – the Lakadia-Vadodara Transmission Project Limited (LVTPL). This landmark project now facilitates the evacuation of 5 GW of reliable green power from the wind and solar energy hubs of Bhuj & Kutch to various parts of India.
